Logospire v3

Just pushed out the Logospire version 3 release today. There are a couple of big changes. The first is the new look: everything is pretty much in the same place but I’ve removed a lot of the bounding boxes and graphics to make the whole site feel lighter and simpler. The UI images have been redesigned as well. I’ve also removed commenting functionality from logos because it really wasn’t adding enough value. The vast majority of logos didn’t get any comments, and most of the comments were in the form of praise/dislike which is already reflected in the ratings. I think this is a good decision as it leaves the site more focused and free of spam.

Another change is in the back-end. I’ve moved the Logospire server from Slicehost to Heroku together with Amazon S3 for logo image hosting. This change is purely because Heroku and Amazon S3 are a better fit for how Logospire works — Slicehost has been a really great host, and I still use them for my other sites. Because Logospire now uses Amazon S3 for logo images they should now load even faster than before.

Finally, I’ll be running this blog to let you know about any big updates to the site in the future. Thanks for visiting.
